HMAS Watson, located at Sydney’s South Head was commissioned in 1945 under the Royal Australian Navy’s Radar Training School. Today, HMAS Watson is the premier maritime warfare training establishment, home to the Training Authority Maritime Warfare and, under recent restructuring, is part of Fleet Command. Operating continuously for more than 70 years, HMAS Watson has been struggling to meet the requirement of a modern navy base. Now, HMAS Watson is undergoing a 7-year redevelopment and on completion will deliver, a new training precinct for Royal Australian Navy personnel, upgrades to base engineering services, refurbishment of existing galleys, and new live-in accommodation of Navy trainees.
