The Air Force has been part of the Hunter since the late 1930s when the Defence Practice Area was first designated in Williamtown. RAAF Base Williamtown is home to the command, operational and support elements of Air Combat Group’s tactical fighter force. It is Air Force’s intent that RAAF Base Williamtown remains the nation’s main fighter pilot training base, and due to this RAAF Base Williamtown is currently under major redevelopment works.
